ok i don't think my last reply went through.
It is a personal loan. and I think it was secured with households goods. I think I can't remember it's been so long ago and I'm not even sure we still have what ever it's secured with. Maybe it was the computer i'm not sure
So is that a written or open account. They closed the account in 2006. but I know I haven't made a payment since 2004 ish

Would it be a written account since It's not a credit card. The company hasn't attempted to contact me yet. They just sent me a letter in the mail.
has anyone ever dealt with these people. Are they bottom feeders or a good collection company ?
Did you take the loan out thru a bank? Did you sign a contract?
Did you take the loan out thru a bank? Did you sign a contract? If so, it's a written account and subject to a 10 year SOL. I have had no personal dealings with Sentry and they haven't made Bud Hibbs list...yet.

The fact they are charging you $2000 more is suspicious. You should DV them, since it is your right. If they can't produce the signed contract, then they can't prove you owe them any money, much less the longer SOL. Make sure they give you everything that would prove why you owe them $2000 more then the original debt.

You will have to answer the summons in the amount of time listed on it. You can confirm, deny or neither confirm nor deny the debt is yours.
You live in Florida but who is suing you? Is it the same as the attorney? What's the attorney's name?
What are they suing you for and when was the last time you made a payment?
Also if there are questions on the summons and you need help in answering them post them on here and we can give it a shot. Other than that if you have an attorney they can help you do the same.

Hey I was sent a letter from sentry for a loan I co-signed for car that was stolen and the insurance paid the balance since they had gap, but unfortunate they stopped paying after the car was stolen which they missed 2 payment of $600 each the finance company sold it to these guys and the interest had gotten up to over $3000 but I called and talked to them since the economy is in such a funk we worked a deal for me to pay only 20% of what's so basically I have to come up with 1 of the missed payments and I will never co-sign anything for any one ever again but called them and who knows they may work a deal with you it can't hurt.
Sure hope that you got everything in writing, if not be prepared

Yep, make sure you get a settlement letter before you pay a dime

You wouldn't believe how many people get screwed by not getting a settlement letter saying its paid in full. Make sure they send one to you immediately after payment. Usually they'll send it either way but confirm it to make sure. Sentry does not buy old debts, they still have to report back to whichever bank it is that sent the file to collections.
