The more you can afford, the more you can add to each basket, making it special for the receiver of the gift.
You can get alot of things including the baskets from the dollar store,Video stores has used Dvds for sale pretty cheap or you can get gift cards in place of the main gift.

Lets all help those who need ideas for this year. :)

My dad use to do the "care baskets" with crackers and cheese, a few toys, and some other items.
You can always shop at Salvation Army, as well as other antique stores to find "neat" or "special" gift items.
Remember, heat bills can also strap people for cash. Keeping it at 65 when you're not home, or sleeping, can greatly reduce those bills.
Holidays are very, very, close. Hope everyone has a safe one!

At my job we can earn Target gift cards every week for different things (program designed to help build morale in the workplace) so I have been trying to save those up. I also am doing christmas pics of the kids in different styles of frames. And for my teenage relatives i am doing gift cards at their favorite store.

Thankfully, DH gets his Holiday pay in one lump sum the day before Thanksgiving. Law enforcement doesn't get holidays! :lol So we are able to use that for Christmas and have money left over. Otherwise, we would have Christmas, but it would be much more difficult!

As thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season, take some time out and do all the shopping in full swing that you might look to do sometime later. Right now, you can get some discounts in entertainment, travel and shopping within your budget.
We all will witness wonderful sights and sounds of the season and it is during such time, the best laid plan on which we worked for so long, often gets hurt. Be careful in advance and include everything in your budget. Do not overstretch yourself if it is not within reach. We all have worked very hard to bring things in control and we should not let it go hurt in a fraction of time.
I know I might have brought something not suitable in this topic right now. Maybe we could have discussed it later. But folks, you know me, I always suggest you to live with realistic expectations.
Someone who will always care :)

Very good advice Roxette, thats why I do the baskets,I keep them in the closet, and try to look for inexpensive things to put in them, keeping in the theme. My family knows that money is tight for me right now,but they always love the baskets,no matter how much I have put in them. Now that I have entered the consolidation program and have made my first payment,I will enjoy this Christmas even if the presents are few, because now I know that the future is going to be brighter.

With having such a large family, I always check out the deals the day after thanksgiving. And for the older relatives I do the pictures. It is just crazy thinking of Christmas again. It seems like Christmas was just yesterday.

My family started doing "secret santa" last year and that has saved us money. So instead of buying everyone a gift...you can just focus on one person. And then for all the other people you buy for you can burn cd's, make inexpensive gift baskets. OH AND A GREAT IDEA...last year I did this for my parents. I got a double panel frame (the ones that are 5 by 7 on each side and they fold and open)...on one side I put a pic of my mom and me when I was little and on the opposite side I made a design and listed like 10 memories that me and my mom shared...I did the same for my dad and my two sisters. ALL OF THEM CRIED when opening. It is so easy cheap and meaningful.
