How/WHY does this crazy companay think the old debt is mine???? Do they have to prove it before they give me a tax form 1099c? If it is mine, it would be from 1997 and the amount is very inaccurate.
Does Jefferson Capital often send 1099c forms?

Uncle wulf says that this is a scam, Don't fall for it, you will restart the SOL if you accept the card. Someone with more knowlege will be along to advise you on this matter.

Don't know about the 1099 but it will reset the SOL. If it has already expired and this is past reporting period, I would send them a FOAD letter and be done with it.

Yeah...my favorite is:
I'm NOT GOING TO PAY this alleged debt. EVER. If all the grains of sands on every beach on every ocean said "NOT GOING TO PAY" in tiny red letters, it would still not be enough to express how much I'm NOT GOING TO PAY. Cease and desist your collection efforts, because I'm NOT GOING TO PAY.
PS. In case I didn't make it clear. I'm NOT GOING TO PAY
Now that's funny, I don't care who you are. Unless

Unless you're a dishonest debt collector. In that case, it's really funny [to me.]

Right...always ask for validation...with the 1099 stuff now a FOAD letter is not a good idea and will net you a 1099 in nothing flat. If the account is under dispute they can't submit a 1099 because the debt has not been proven to be yours.
This 1099 stuff is scary, because whose to say that it wasn't written off long ago? Personally I don't see how a CA can even ask for a 1099, you would think that the OC would have to do that.
If the person sends the "FOAD," and bill/debt was not validated
If the person sends the "FOAD," and bill/debt was not validated by the collector as being the debtor's, how could the collector risk sending a 1099c? The IRS would get involved.
