My first post and question.

I wish that I had found this website a long time ago. I had excellent credit until the period from when I became disabled and had no income until last year, when I became officially disabled by the SSA and now receive disability insurance income.
I am working with a debt management company now, but there is one credit card and one payday loan collection agency (A&S Associates) who refuse to cooperate, so I am trying to get a debt consolidation loan, so that I can pay them off and only have one payment each month. I was fortunate enough to be accepted as a loan seeker on Prosper.com, but right now there is some kind of "freeze" on and nobody can bid on loans.
My question is this: I received a call from an Amy Fisher from a company called Century One, located in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada. She offered me a loan of $10,000 but said that I had to pay a fee of $1000 due to my credit rating. I told her I was interested, but wanted to research it. Unfortunately so far, I have found nothing online about the company. I did find out the phone number she gave me was a cell phone. Does anyone have any advice on this company, or if there is a BBB for Canada?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Don't take it! It's a scam!!!
In particular, this is the type of scam known as 'Advance Fee Fraud.' Basically, you apply for a loan [or fall for some scheme out of Nigeria, or whatever.] They come back saying that you need to pay a fee up front, long with your application. If you bite, your application goes in the trash, your thousand bucks goes in their pocket, and you're out of luck.
No reputable lender will ever ask you for a fee up front. Fees, closing costs, and what-not are deducted from the loan proceeds at the time of disbursement.

This payday loan collection outfit...... Tell me about the loan, please. Was it from a storefront, or an online lender [and who were they]? Also, how much did you borrow, how much have you paid back, and what state do you live in?
Any information you'd care to give [no personal info, please!] about the collection agency would also help. Where are they located, what are they saying/doing, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it sounded too good to be true.
I got a payday loan online from a company called Q-Loot. I had gotten these types of loans before, but this one added some "Drive-by" charges for services that were listed on the application form, which I specifically checked NO to, but they charged them to my checking account anyway. This caused several NSF fees and continuous overdraft fees. I got frustrated and hired PDL Assistance to deal with them. They told me to close my account. I did and was paying them $272 for three months. However, the collector calls continued from 8:00am till 9:00pm 7 days a week. I finally fired PDL Assistance and called the payday loan companies and set up repayment schedules.
The Q-Loot (also called VIP Cash) said I had to deal with a collection agency called A&S Associates, who called early one morning while I was sleeping and threatened that I was being charged with a felony. I got a loan of $250. from Q-Loot, and I live in Kentucky. On Monday I am going to call them and ask them to send me a letter for debt validation (which I learned about on this website) and hopefully they will respond. I'll keep ya posted on the results.
Thanks, I really appreciate your help.
