I called the newyork banking authority and they said that although payday loans are not legal in new york these companies are legal bec they're licensed outside of the state. they said i have to pay down the loan completely. is this correct - i've closed my bank account and now i'm scared i'm going to get my wages garnished or ruin my credit. my loan companies are sandpoint, impact, shamrock and sagamore and i've paid them all WAY more than the ammount originally borrowd but haven't made a dent in the principal -

got news for you.PDL'S are prohibited in NY.many members in NY got there PDL'S dealt with through AG complaints.whoever you spoke with was wrong.also AIS is a bottomfeeder collector.
two questions

how much borrowed total
how much paid total.
if you have paid the princple in fees you are done with all your loans.sometimes a states branch governing banking will say that.file AG complaints against your pdl's and AIS.

i'm guessing AIS never sent you anything in the mail.if you search AIS in the bar top right that will have the address.send a DV and C&D letter.send them certified mail return receipt.you
actually should send emails to those pdl's demanding a refund.seeing as you paid double what the loans were.your AG can help you with this too.
