What the Heck

I am just totally speechless right now. I had a hospital bill of about $800.00 and could not pay the entire thing so I was sending in as much as I could. Now I only received this bill about 3 months ago and made 3 payments of about $50.00 each. Now I get a notice in the mail from a collection agency telling me they have been hired to collect this debt. I just don't understand - I thought since I was paying on this bill most hospitals would not do this. Well, I guess I won't be going to that hospital ever again.
Unbelieveable!!!!!! Now I know this has been asked before but I can only find DV letters that are talking about seeing the debt on your credit report. Could someone help me send a DV letter to this CA. I need to buy myself some time because in Jan I will have the money to pay this bill off.

Where we live, they send all unpaid hospital bills to a local collection company. I know, because when my son was younger we paid them off and on for probably 15 years, with him being in and out of the hospital. And then more recently with my oldest son who is on disability.
They were easy to work with, I made small payments,no interest, etc.
Have you spoken with the hospital and told them this would be paid in full in January, and you would like to keep paying another of payments until then, so it won't go to the CA? With only one or two payments, it looks like you would be able to do this.
