Hey dbhawk. There is a counseling company I am using in Oregon. Clear Choice debt relief in the portland area. They clearly explained to me the difference of what Debt Management/credit counseling/consolidation was versus debt negotiation. They offer both but recommended for me to try and go with the debt management because debt settlement was not the easiest path as many commercials can make it seem. I personally could not afford even a management program from anywhere so I had to go the debt settlement route. They were very helpful and not pushy by any means. With the debt settlement unlike other companies though they dont take there fees upfront like most of the companies out there, they took it over the length of the program and only took 13% fee because i had a high dollar amount. I lived in the area so wanted to keep int local. They were members of TASC also. I dont know what that means. But i am saving money quicker to settle rather than the other companies i called. I spoke with Sarah and she was extrememly helpful. BUt due your diligence i am just one opinion but i live in Oregon so. Good luck.
