Check and see if they are registered as a CSO (credit services organization) they love to use that in Texas to get around lending laws.

I found The Cash Store as a registered CSO. Their file number is 20050024 if that helps you find them.
It sucks, I know. I wish they weren't registered myself. I have a couple of loans with them.

Be careful with stopping payments on checks in Texas. It can end up costing you more than it's worth. Writting a check then knowingly and intentionally putting a stop payment on it will be considered theft by check.
My suggestion would be to go take a look at their terms of service and see what went wrong where and how you can fix it. You don't need or want the Tarrant County Hot Check Division comming after you.
My understanding from store front payday loans is that you have to pay them off on the next pay period. Many will let you get another loan as soon as you pay them off. It is hard to break the cycle.

The only thing they can do is to claim fraud. They would have a hard time proving fraud since I made many payments on it. Tarrant County won't accept this as a hot check since it wasn't written for goods or services.

Did you not recieve money from this store? Have you paid back the entire amount you owe them?
How did the balance get to be so large if I may ask? I went through payday hell myself a few years back. The only way I can imagine that the balance got to be this big if you continues to take out laons from them, or you made payments to them that extended beyond the deadline and therefore incurred more interest on the loan.
Money is considered goods and services. Did you write them a paper check? Or was it a check by phone? Store front payday loan companies run slightly different than online payday ones do. And speaking from personal experience the hot check division can get involved.

Under Texas Law, the District Attorney's Office cannot accept the following kinds of checks:
Post-dated, "Hold" or "Stop Payment" checks, (unless evidence exists to prove that the "Stop Payment" was used to prevent the check from being returned as a "NSF" check);
Checks upon which the statute of limitations has run, (2 years on checks under $1500.00, 5 years on checks over $1500.00);
Checks not presented to the bank within 30 days from the date written;
Checks for insurance premiums or service policies, where no claim has been made and paid on basis of the check, or no agent check for a premium has been forwarded on basis of the check;
Checks received through the mail;
Two party checks, (except payroll checks and only then when the original payee is available to testify in court);
Checks presented outside of Tarrant County or for services performed outside of Tarrant County;
Checks presented in payment of debts, loans, charge accounts, or other deferred payment accounts;
Checks given in payment due to a court order or other judgment, (special exception for some types of child support checks);
Checks where no property or services were given in immediate exchange;
Checks which are altered or forged, (file these with your local Police Department);
Checks given in furtherance of an illegal activity.
I go in there every payday and renew the loan and give them another check. I only sign the check and don't put any other info on it at all.
