A medical bill that is 14 months old showed up on my credit report a month ago, and I sent a DV letter yesterday. I probably should have sent it when I first noticed it on my report, but I didn' know better.

What is my next step? What if they send me documents, but the whole thing seems whitewashed and their documentation seems insufficient?

This whole thing is due to my exwife, who was supposed to provide medical insurance for our son according to the divorce decree, took my son to the hospital and gave the hospital my name and social. Unless she forged my signature, there is no way the OC has any document with my signature on it.

Comments?

if she did indeed forge your signature and you can prove it then she commited a crime in doing that.as far as the DV letter goes.there is no timetable to respond, but they shouldn't contact you until they can validate.

Hopefully it's not the case that she forged it, because I would hate to put my son through anything like that.

I'm just wondering, however, if there is no signed document, woul they be able to collect? I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that there never an enforceable contract between me and the hospital.

if your ex-wife was the one at the hospital at the time then her signature would or should be on the document.then the CA can't validate the debt.
