Any ideas on where to start and what to do?
Would the credit card companies work with us if we contact them directly?

Thanks for the reply Frank,
So basically we have to let the cards go unpaid, have late charges accrue, and finance charge rates increase before they might consider working with us... thats sad.

Mornin' Lost -
There is a credit consultation available through this site. The service is reliable and free of charge. You'll find a toll-free number and chat link in the upper/right corner of this web page, or on our home page at: www.debtconsolidationcare.com

Thats crazy that in order for you to get any help you must first screw up alot and rack up even more charges. I too and im a similar situation, I quit my job to finish my schooling to be a medical transcriptionist from home. My fiance works but lately has been cut down on hours (like every other business in the world right now) and we are getting married in May of next year ( hooray ) but we have no money and lots of credit card debts and other debts that are just stresing us out beyond belief.
Good luck, i hope everything works out for you!
Other Options
Definitely seek out information on all your options and look into the free consultations. Depending on your income, consolidation can be difficult at 120k+ in debt, and sometimes impossible. One option I've recently used is something called debt validation and Resolution (it is similar to negotiation and settlement but for higher credit card debt amounts- 50k+ and includes stopping payments until negotiated as part of the strategy.) It has worked well for me. Check out freedom from creditors with PlanB (google it). They are legit and offer a free consultation as well that you may be interested in learning more.
Thanks Uncle Wulf, I'll have to try the consultation soon.

Bigboy Bob,
I looked at the site you recommend. It was kind of vague on what they actually do to help with the credit crunch. I did notice that they charge on average $2500 to $4500 and will accept partial payments from multiple credit cards... extremely ironic and creepy.
I wouldn't touch that site or it's program, but that's just me.
