I have two old amex credit cards. I filed BK on them in 2003. Th question is will that help my credit if I make monthly payments on them? I am wanting to get another AMEX card in a few years. What would you recommend? Make payments or settle the accounts for 75% of the balance owed? I am only able to pay $40 per month on each card. I owe $6,200 on one and $2,600 on the other. Would they be willing to open another account if I settle them for 75% of the balance? Thank for your input.

You'll likely continue to get declined, whether you send them money or not. Both for that reason, and due to your BK. If the accounts were discharged in BK, accept that and move on. The cards will drop off your credit report in another couple of years or so. The BK will drop off either about that time, or in another three years. Those are the things that will improve your credit.
