I do think pay day loans are against the law in ny

NYS does not legalize these loans. All you are morrally expected to do is pay back exactly the amount borrowed. They will tell you otherwise, but you go by the laws of YOUR state.

I'd suggest reading the section on this forum about bank accounts and then I'd close my account and open a new one. If you go that route, please don't tell the payday loans ahead of time, they'll try to get whatever they can from your account before it's closed. And don't give them any info on your new bank account; pay what you owe via money order or some other way where they can't drain your accounts or credit cards. (when you go to the bank, talk w/ the manager about why you're closing the account, odds are good they've heard similar stories. Be sure to check that they don't charge return fees on ach's against closed accounts) Keep us posted.
