On my credit report I have a credit card charge off that saids it will be removed 12/2009. In Jan 2009 can I ask for it to be removed and will they comply?

But will they remove it if I ask in Jan.. if report says dec 200

I just settled a credit card payment and the credit card company said that they will report my account as " settled " to the credit bureaus. Now will this look bad on my credit report or I don't have to worry.
It will still show as derogatory but less so than a Charge Off
