....who do you ask for? the Collections department? or just a Supervisor?

Probably collections. I just asked for someone who could help me with my account.

Is it with the original creditor or collection agency?

What is the amount and when was the last payment?

If it is with the original creditor, most of them want you to be several months late before discussing this. As far as collection agencies go, it differs.

When my debt was still with the original creditor, I called and called until I got someone who would work with me, although I didn't do settlement, but paid them off. I asked for their hardship program, explaining that I wanted to pay them off in full, but was too difficult with the payment amount, fees, etc.

If you get on a program, you have to be sure you can make the payments you promised them, or they will drop you from the program..Good Luck..karen
