In 2001 I applied for a Target Credit card .. The debt went unpaid so Assett Acceptance was given my file.. in 2003 my sister applied for a mortgage.. She found MY Target/AAL account on her credit report.. (our ssn's are off my 1 digit) We fought with them and they claimed they didn't have the original application. My sister didn't talk to me for 4 months because she thought I did this on purpose. Somehow her husbands business line was on the account. I tried telling her that his # was on there because a search was done on her SSN to find out anything they could to obtain the amount owed. her ssn was used to open her husbands business line!! For 2 years they claimed they couldn't find my orginal file NOW last week they found it & NO WHERE on there is ANYTHING about my sister!! She once again won't talk to me!!!

What can I do ?!?! This has ruined my life!! Can I sue?!? How can I get to the BOTTOM of this to prove that I didn't do this?

She also had an account with Target!!

Have you contacted the credit bureaus or Asset Acceptance? If all your fight was against Asset Acceptance then I will suggest contacting credit bureaus to dispute the entry. Since the error is there in your sister's credit report, she should send the application.

Credit bureaus are supposed to carry out an investigation and rectify the errors if any. Once all is settled, I think, your life will come back to its normal track and all the personal misunderstanding will be resolved. Best of luck.
