Trying to Collect...AGAIN

Okay...here is the story...DH and I paid a settlement in Feb of 07'..we just received a phone call saying that it was bought by Allgate and then sold to Praxis for collection. They say that what they have is stating that we paid the settlement but we paid it in April of 07' when we really paid it in Feb. So basically they are trying to collect the remainder since we paid the settlement amount. I have a call into my old bank to find the check/statement that says we paid in 07. What happens if they can't find it? They also have the wrong address for us...wrong state and City...should I tell the person who is trying to collect? I am just so sick of all of this...I KNOW we paid it on time but am afraid the bank won't be able to find it since our account is closed and I truly cannot remember back that far.

The bank should have no problem pulling a copy of your copy of your check from last year...I think they have to retain copies for 5-7 years.

I have the settlement letter with the amount on it but can't remember if I paid with a Check or my Debit Visa. I am probably worrying for nothing but I am just so sick of these people...ya know..you do the right thing and pay it and it still comes back to bit you in the a$$. Sorry...venting
