How long does a settlement or charge off stay on your credit report?

It will stay 7 years or longer. However after a couple of years the success rate on removal is great. This time of year is the best time in the industry for getting negative items removed.

It is not the Date of Last Activity that governs credit reporting time limits, it is Date of First Default (DOFD). A derogatory item can stay on your report for 7.5 years from the DOFD and no longer. You can attempt to dispute and if the data furnisher does not verify w/in 30-45 days, then it will be deleted. Mail in your dispute. Do not use the on-line dispute process.

No. On older reports it might not be shown at all. When I pulled my free annuals a few weeks ago, I did see the DOFD was showing on a couple of my reports. Can't remember which though. What you might also see on an older report would be Date DOFD reported by Data Furnisher which is the date that the DOFD was reported by whoever is reporting the tradeline. Per the FACT Act, DOFD must be reported to the CRA's w/in 90 days of a derogatory tradeline being reported to them. If you are not seeing the DOFD on your reports you can call the CRA's and ask for the DOFD as reported by the Data Furnisher. Alos, you can take the estimated date of removal and substract 7.5 years and come close.

That old credit report is from 2006, and the Last Active Date is 7/03.

On my current Transunion report the dates are as follows: Date Assigned 8/11/05, Date Reported 12/1/08, Date Paid 6/18/07, Date Closed 6/1/07.

On my current Experian report the dates are Date Opened 8/05, Last Activity 9/08, Last Payment 6/07, date closed Not Reported.

what if you "know" that the date they show (or tell you) is not correct? I am sure the 7/03 date is correct, or at least close to it. I am equally sure the 8/05 date is NOT correct.

Is the 90 day time limit from a certain date/time?

I have an old paid debt that I am trying to find a way to get off of my record as they are showing it as "settled in full" rather than "paid in full", and I am scraping the barrel looking for ANY way to get this debt off my record!

Okay I called both Transunion and Experian and they said that the Date of First Delinquency WAS 7/03!

On my Transunion FICO it says my most recent collection (my only one) occured 3 years, 4 months ago. That is not correct! It was 5 years, 5 months ago. Does anyone know how to update/fix this with Transunion?

On my Experian report, it doesn't show the time since my most recent collection, but that might be because they are listing it under a 90+ day late account rather than a collection ... is that good or bad?

Initiate a new written dispute. List every single data field and ask for each line to be verified for accuracy. List "Multiple Inaccuracies" So from your example

Date of Last Activity: 3yrs 4mos ago
[center:44dc0a43ac]INCORRECT: This date of last activity on this account was 5yr 5mo's ago[/center:44dc0a43ac]

Balance: $5,000,000,000
[center:44dc0a43ac]Incorrect: The balance on this account is $500[/center:44dc0a43ac]

Do this for evey data field and contest alll the inaccuracies.

I have disputed this tradeline several times, and now when I do, I receive a notice back saying they have already investigated it, and the last sentance says "Without additional relevent information in support of this dispute, you will not receive this notice again regarding this particular dispute."
