I have been contacted in the past, at work, by Hanna. I have never taken their calls, did research and found out what they do and why they would be calling me. I have not had the money to pay off the creditor they respresent, so I haven't contacted them. The calls have stopped, but a couple of months ago, they sent a letter to my ex-husband's house, stating that I owe $200 more than the original debt(is this legal?), and that if I do not make arrangements to pay, they will file suit. I didn't contact them. I did a free/limited public record search, and found that there is civil judgement against me, and i'm assuming it is from them. I've been running for a while, out of fear and shame...my husband does not know of this situation and I would prefer to handle this myself. I will be coming into enough money to pay off my debts at the end of January, but am afraid to contact Hanna for fear that they will not be very patient. If they have filed suit, yet I have not received paperwork, due to them more than likely not having my home address(not listed, under husbands name, etc), what will happen?

You still haven't received the summons, but you'll get it within sometime. Call your creditor and try to settle the debt. If they refuse then call Hanna and try to settle it. You can also take help of a debt settlement company. Enroll yourself to a debt settlement company and payoff the debt.

The collection lawyer has violated collection laws by disclosing your debt information to a third party.

Angie, you say that a judgement has already been issued against you? If so find out when and where you were served? You might have the judgement overturned for improper service, during the meantime watch your bank accounts closely, if they have a judgement they may go after your bank account or garnish your wages.

Has Hanna violated the credit laws by mailing the information to my ex husband's address(it was addressed to me)? The letter states that I owe $200 more than the original debt, can they do that, am I obligated to pay that additional amount as well? Also, how would I find out for sure if they have already filed a civil suit? As i've mentioned, I have not received anything at my home address(which to my knowledge, is unknown to them-for now). If they can not locate my address, how long do they have to serve me the papers and what happens if they can't find me to serve them? I am just wanting to know what would happen. I'm sucking it up and placing the call today, I don't want to be recorded, if I tell them no when they ask, will that be a mistake? I know they'll want the money immediately, but again, I won't have it until mid January, I just want them to know that and I don't want them to contact me. Getting myself in this situation sickens me and I want to be over and done with it all, and NEVER again will I allow myself to screw up so badly...my credit is ruined forever.
