We have a small loan from a local company...only $800 and we are two weeks late on the payment and they have called our NEIGHBOR!!! And today found out they called my husband's step dad who lives in another state!? We don't even have his phone number? How are these people finding this info and is this legal???

As far as I know, collection agencies are bound by fdcpa laws in not revealing any information to any third party. I'm not sure whether this law applies for the original creditors. But it doesn't seem good that the original creditor company contacts your neighbor and passes information about your debt.

NOPE..I don't think they can do this legally. It's very surprising how CA's, etc. get phone numbers. What about the Unlisted phone numbers...I wonder if they can still get those?
