wells fargo bank can they garnish your wages

I saw a fax from wells fargo to my human resourses dept asking them for my employment info. I owe them around 7 thousand and have been unable to pay but was going to consolidate my debt with them and a few other creditors after the holidays can they garnish your wages in ny state I thought they would just send it to a collection agency should I contact them and let them know I am going to consolidate.

First, they would need to take you to court and get a judgement
First, they would need to take you to court and get a judgement against you which takes time. Then they would have to act on that judgement. But it depends on which state your in, some states do not allow garnishments.
