SSM Group/OSL Should I pay them at all?
Date: Sun, 01/04/2009 - 03:57
I am new to this site and happy at all the infor mation have I found on SSM/SJM/OSL/SUMMIT GROUP/PLATINUM B, FTR Processing,
i found these companies are all linked and claim to be in the West Indies.
In december I checked my account that I had nt used for some months, only to find that i owed $190 in overdraft charges.
I gound out that it had come from SSM Group. The bank gave me their number to call them.
I called them and they told me i had taken a payday loan with them, stating that they had sent me emails (which I was not aware of) and called my house number and left messages. I never talked to anyone of their representatives or confirmed the PDL.
I remember applying for a pay day loan in OCT, but i was rejectied because i was not working at the time. I was never approved of a payday loan to my knowlegde.
I call OSL/SSM Group, the first number doesn't work but the second one does. They tell me i have to pay because i agreed to the loan through clicking the accept buttom on some payday loan form. I dont know what they are talking about.
Furthermore... the operator i talked to, told me when he sent the emails confirming my pay day loans, so i went to my email box and found the emailfar into the begining of October. I never opened them or saw them. but I got 4 emails for 2 different payday loans companies, but i know they are the same or connected because the sender address is the same. The last email has a written attachment stating that i wont be given a payday loan unless i speak with one of their representatives to confirm my information.
I never got a call from these people or read any of their emails.
I told one of their representatives this, and he said he will need the information, I sent it to him. He sent me a copy of the document, stating they do not need my reply to my email or a phone call to confirm the PDL and it would be deposited into my account. He sent me that copy of "what they sent me in OCT" I checked my email files and that particular letter was never sent to me at all.
I checked my account and saw in OCT $100 was deposited in my account.
They have racked up $240 in overdraft charges on my account and their interest rate is twice what is is for the state of WASHINGTON. they are charging me $30 every 2 weeks, on that $100 they deposited in my account without my consent.
Also I checked OSL and SSM and all their branches and found that they are not registered or do they have a payday loan license in WASHINGTON STATE.
I talk to a lawyer and he said i should close my account and talk to them to drop the loan but I should still file a complaint to DFI and the FTC.
He said that i may not be obligated to even payback the principal amount that they deposited in my account.
They have not gotten one penny from me.
I am angry and frustrated that those leeches would try to suck me dry. I don't want to pay them anything, even the principal. I even want to demand that they pay the overdraft charges to my account.
What can I do? And do I have to pay them back, they are asking for $250 now.
Hi Kylie, Because these companies are out of the West Indies,
Hi Kylie,
Because these companies are out of the West Indies, they are illegal, they shouldn't have lent to you at all. I would do as your attorney suggested, close the account and report them to the BBB, FYC & Attorney General.
Normally I would state that you should pay back what was borrowed, but in this case, you didn't ask for the money and they have already cost you more in OD fee's than the loan was for. Be prepared for phone calls & emails, once they realize that they can't get into your account anymore, they will start. There is a letter you can send them, I will post it in a second along with an address for them...
Here is an address for them and the letter I was talking about.
Here is an address for them and the letter I was talking about. You would need to tailor it for your needs:
