Come on, someone must have some answers on this. All the debt books suggest this ...anyone had any luck??

I have successfully used the Goodwill approach with the OC to remove late payments and with one CA on a PFD out of eleven PFD's sent out. I paid a couple collections and then waited 90 days and then disputed the tradlines. They already had their money and did not verify the accounts = deleted.

I have never seen where you can get a creditor to not put something negative on the report. They will either report it as " settled as agreed " or "settled in full" or something like that. Plus it will still show on the credit report that you were delinquent before the account was settled although like Nascar said you can sometimes negotiate to have them remove the delinquencies.

You could try disputing the debt with the credit reporting agencies after you settle it. If the creditor does not confirm the debt it will be removed. It depends on the creditor some will not verify. If it is a major card then I don???t know if this will work but I have had it work with smaller companies.

I've dealt with all the major credit card companies and none of them would reflect that I "paid in full". The only way to get rid of the bad marks is to dispute the debt later. However, my credit score did not plunge so bad after settlements, I have a 601 now after settling 120k worth of debt. If you have a long solid credit history of paying bills on time, this one period blemish stings but does not send you plummeting.
