allied interstate called me today and left a message on my answering machine saying they were attempting to collect a debt. I know I do not have any debt. All my bills are payed and I do not have credit cards. I do not have the slightest clue as to why they would be calling me. I was thinking it could be a scam so I looked the company up on the internet and everything I have read about them is negative, including sometimes they contact you when you do not have debt. What should I do?

It is possible this is a case of mistaken identity. They are known to not be quite so diligent in their skip tracing. They are required to send you details w/in 5 days of initial contact. Next time they call, answer. Verify you are the John DOe they are looking for. If you aren't, you'll probably still have to go thru a bit of BS to convince them.
