I have been working with Cash Transfer Center this is the email I recieved from them

We are in receipt of your certified letter dated December 22nd, 2008. Please be advised that we have
ceased all collection activities and all communication by telephone while this account is under
investigation.
If you take a moment to review your attached loan agreement, you will see that Northway Financial is
licensed by the government of Malta as a financial institution and the law of Malta, not the state of
Nebraska, applies to its terms. We provided you with this notice so that you would understand the
terms of your loan.
Upon review of your file, we are prepared to offer a repayment arrangement in the amount of four (4)
equal payments of $325.00 as payment in full of your outstanding loan. This represents the $1300.00
loan principle on your current outstanding loan. Once payment has been received, we will consider this
account paid in full with no further obligation. Please be advised that we will be unable to offer our
services to you in the future.
The four (4) equal payments of $325.00 can be made via Western Union or Money Gram, and should
be received by April 20th, 2009. We have included the payment information below for your reference.
Alternatively, you may send your payments to the Northway Financial Corporation Ltd. address listed
above.

I have already paid them $200.00, should I disregard the amount I paid and consider that to the "loan fee" or should I expect them to take that amount off what they want paid. I am in Nebraska and it was an online loan for $1300.00

I want to be fair. Thanks for your help.

Has! I got the exact same letter from them with different $$ amounts of course. Bottom line for me though is that they want me to repay money to them that I don't owe. I just got the letter yesterday and I haven't figured out how to respond. I'm a freakin' nervous wreck about all of this today so I'm trying to collect my thoughts before I respond.

Hi Jady,

Because they are out of Malta, they are illegal. If you have overpaid them I would keep resending the same letter/email advising them of this fact. Have you already reported them to the BBB, sometime's you have some luck with that as well...don't let it get to you, unfortunately its all part of the process, but it does get better :)

I have already sent the letter revoking wage assignment. I email, faxed, and mailed it USPS.

I haven't filed with the BBB yet. Do you know what all is involved there? I feel so overwhelmed with all of this paperwork I'm trying to keep up with. What all info does the Bureau need in order to start the process?

I'm in the same mess with CTC. I "defaulted" on the loan they gave me. It was due 12/26 and I couldn't pay it. They gave me until 1/9..but I still can't pay in full. I have already sent the letter to revoke the wage assignment (I sent one to an address in Malta and one to an address in Canada, both where sent registered mail) and have spoke to my payroll dept. I went to the bank and put a stop on any ACH debits from Northway or CTC. I'm concerned about them harassing me at work. It hasn't started yet, but I'm afraid that after the 9th they will start. has anyone been successful in getting them to stop calling. I plan to pay back the debt but I need them to work with me. This has been such a stressful ordeal. Can anyone think of anything else that I can/need to do at this point? Thanks

I just have to ask for clarification.....are you willing to pay them back the $1300 for the principle and not any of the fee's because they are illegal???
I think this thread my have confused me? If you have paid $200 already don't you still need to pay the remaining $1100 in principle??
I have just sent two PDL's letters and files all complaints this week but I was only refusing to pay the fee's not prinicple because the are not legal in my state.....do I have that wrong?

here is the skinny on this.if a pdl is illegal in your state you owe no fees period.if the OP paid 200.00 on a 1100.00 loan.then they would owe 900.00.when a pdl is illegal you owe the amount borrowed and nothing more.fees don't apply and any that were taken go toward the loan itself.i hope that cleared it up for you.it can be confusing at first.

I too would like to change my name, and not loose my threads. That was my question too if I could pay back just the principal and not the fees, I expect to pay the principal, but I guess if they are dealing illegally part of my says I would like to make them feel a little tinge of regret for being illegal. Thanks
