Okay I just rcvd in the mail a letter from RJM Acqusitions stating that they purchased an account and they are giving me 3 options to pay on this account. I have no idea where they got this account and/or how it is connected to me. I was reading over the letter and it states that I have 30 days to submit a dispute otherwise if I don't send a dispute they will say the account is mine. Can they already report this on my credit reports???? Or do they have to wait to see if I dispute it??? They DV Letter I have ready to go states that if they report negative info to the 3 major credit reporting agencies that, that will be considered fraud. Can they report it if I am disputing it within the 30 days????

Please help

It is a bit iffy. Chances are they have already reported it. Once you send them a debt validation letter they can't report it, since that would be considered continued collection practice, but nothing is to stop them from reporting it before they get a validation notice.

Check your reports to see if they are listed on there.

Do you recognize the account at all, who they say the original creditor was?

If you do recognize it, when was the last time you made a payment on the account? Also what state are you in so we can look up the SOL (statute of limitation) this governs if they can legally sue you. (They still may try even if past SOL, but you would have a valid defense to get it thrown out.

Send a DV letter either way, tailor the letter to fit your needs...if it is listed on your credit report, mention that, if you don't recognize the account, mention that and say you need this info asap in the case of identity theft. If you do recognize the account hen simply ask for proof they can legally collect upon the debt and what they are attempting to collect is correct and show that you have any obligation to pay.

From what the letter states it says account purchased was a wamu overdrawn bank account and the account was opened in April 2007 with a 914.00 balance. I just got an alert from truecredit.com stating that my experian report had changed when I checked the alert it is coming up major deragatory RJM Acqusitions, date reported was today which is very strange. Again I don't know what this account is that they are claiming.

So you never had a bank account from Washington Mutual? Ok. Just send the DV certified mail return receipt, it is all you need. You might want to look into filing a police report on identity theft if you never had a wamu account, but make sure that it is definitely not your account.

I am not sure if you should file the report before or after you get validation, because many CAs can't come up with validation and will just try to ignore it....so perhaps you should file, then send a copy of the report to RJM and inform them it is not your account.
