I have been with them for a year now. I started out with $90,000 of debt spread over nine accounts. So far, it has been a positive experience. I have settled four accounts through them, and one on my own, with only four to go. My rep is always available when I call on the phone, and she answers emails very quickly also. I was sure I asked about a million questions before I signed up with them though, and made sure I understood the settlement process itself. It can be tough-going at times, and is not a "quick fix". It is a last resort before bankruptcy. It does not protect you from being sued. You can also settle accounts on your own. If you have a ton of debt, and lots of accounts, and are in such a big hole that you can't see your way out, settlement can be a good alternative to BK. I personally wanted professionals to handle the mess for me, and I feel up to this point anyway, they have been worth the fee.

SusieQ - at the beginning did Superior tell you they have worked with all the creditors on your list? During the program, did they claim that one or more creditors will not work them?

Also, one of my accounts is with Advanta. Superior claims to be able to settle with them, but I have read several items here that Advanta does not work with DS companies. What is the truth???

They felt they could work with everyone, although there can be exceptions, but there is a yes and no regarding Advanta. Advanta does NOT work with settlement companies, that is the one account I had to do on my own, outside of the program. They only offer the settlements directly to you and not a third party. However, if I had had the funds in my account to pay the Advanta settlement I was offered, it would have been paid through Superior. The bad thing was, my funds in the Superior account, at the time, were already committed to settling another account. So I came up with the money outside of the program and dealt with Advanta on my own. Superior then removed that account, and their amount of fees for it, from the program and re-figured my monthly payment (which is now a few hundred less a month!) So, if you receive a settlement offer from Advanta that you have the funds for in your Superior account, you can use those funds. But they will not negotiate with Superior, only with you. My rep was still available for advice, however, and helped guide me through it.
Regarding my other accounts, they were all pretty standard. The two BofA, Chase, and Target are all settled. Currently working on two Citbank, Walmart and Sears. These have all been charged off and are in negotiations with collection agencies.

I find your comments very enlightening SuzieQ. I am working with Superior and my rep swears that Superior settles accounts with Advanta all the time. He even implied that anyone stating otherwise, is basically lying.

Well, it is sort of ambiguous. Because while Advanta will not negotiate with a debt settlement company, they will accept the funds through them, if you have enough in your account to pay it at the time you accept their offer. My rep at Superior was really scrambling to see what they could do for me, even asking her supervisors. Unfortunately, they couldn't extend me the advance needed since my funds were already committed, and I was lucky I was able to borrow from a family member. See, the problem was timing. If it had happened a couple months later when the other account was out of the way, it could've happened. BUT, Advanta wanted it N.O.W. They offered a 10% settlement on a $22,000 account, split into two payments three weeks apart, and my alternative was the nice summons I got the same week the offer came in. So I HAD to find a way to pay that settlement myself. I think your rep is sort of right, sort of wrong, and shouldn't promise that 100%, because ANY creditor can refuse to settle on a whim. It's a total crapshoot. He is probably correct in saying that they will pay settlement payments to Advanta, but according to everying I've read and heard, and from talking to more Advanta people than I can count, I would say the negotiating has to be done by YOU and not Superior as far as Advanta is concerned. Maybe someone else with a different experience will have something to add, but that's just the way it seems to me. It worked out okay, though, in the end.
