Is the amount written in the summons correct? If it is not then you can file a denial. You can deny anything that is incorrect in the summons.
Asset acceptance has a very bad reputation. You can settle the account outside court. Have you seen whether the account has passed its Statute of limitation period?

thats what gets me about all these so called lawfirms and ca's. they buy this debt a pennies on the dollar and then they sue looking for default judgements to make thousands. I never knew there were so many of them out there til I found this site. Wonder what percentage of suits actually end up in default? If 3 out of 4 do then they are racking up the dollars.

Assest has a hard time validating debts, so I would respond to the summons and request that they validate the debt during discovery. They probably won't and hope you don't show up at court and go for a default judgement.
So anything they send you about court verify with the court the accuracy and keep it. Show up for any and all court dates.
They will probably offer you multiple settlement offers right up until you get to the judge. Don't accept any unless they have legally proved the debt and they have given you a written, and signed, document stating that the debt has been settled in full and that any remaining balance WILL NOT be sold off.
