I got a letter before on this from Mitchel N Kay for my old Macy's account. Now I am getting it from Island National Group. It says if I make 3 payments equal to what is due over 3 months, Macy's will reinstate my account for the amount I owed and with a credit limit of $300, give or take a few dollars.

I will have the money next month to take them up on this but was just wondering if it is a scam or not. I only owe a little over $300, they said they would put the account as paid and opened on my credit report for Macy's. Right now it says closed at credit granters request, last payment was in 2006. It was never charged off.

Would you accept this offer?

Since it is not charged off, I would not accept any offer from any debt collector at all----until they validated the debt and proved that:

1--they can document that this is legitimately my debt.
2--that they have the legal right to collect on it.
3--that I legitimately owe the amount they claim I owe.

of those three, the big one for you is #2....Island national group is out of New york if I recall right, and they are directly affiliated with some other debt collector, cannot think of the name right now but they share the same address too. I dealt with the other debt collector, and when I demanded validation, they claimed that they 'sold' the debt to island national.....in reality, the two companies are, I believe, owned by the same entity. it is just a way for them to try to get around the law's requirement that they validate when it is requested.

I dont know of anyone who has had a positive experience dealing with this debt collector, so I would make them validate everything they claim before they saw one penny from me.

I, too, had this same offer presented to me. I owed $598 (and change) and they told me that if I paid it off in 3 equal payments, I would get my card back. I decided to keep that offer letter in a safe place, in case I needed it in the future, and then I made the payments. I paid them off and 6 weeks later, I received my Macy's card with an available balance of $599. This is not a scam. They did what they said they would do. Previously, on my credit report, Macy's put "charge off". NOW it says "paid after charge off". So, they updated the credit report, too. Im still going to try and get that removed completely, even though it say paid.
