Sam, are you saying 30k settled for 13k including there fees etc? or are they calculating what they saved you in interest without adding in their fees?
I've talked with several debt negotiators who sound good while their jaws in gear but after getting off the phone and figuring everything I'm at best settling my 65k debt for around 50k over 36 months.
Also what kind of remarks have these cc companies left on yur credit report at this point? Not that it is a determining factor in my case.

Thats funny sam.. because whitlight financial used to be state farms financial untill they got sues by state farm..the real company for trying to piggyback off the real state farm success by using a similar name...and that was only settled in december..but you say you signed up with them over a year ago, but they were not going by that name..they just started to us that name less then 3 months ago...???? So the only conclusion that can come of this is that , well since i know of the people that work there and i know that one of them goes by the name..samantha...uummmhhhmmm..sounds like this is you..just posting here for free advertising!!!!
OHh and wilbur...aka: Bill Knougblock...get real man...both of you if you want to advertise, do it the right way...not by posting BS sob stories that you never really went through!!!

ok you know what i didnt know before if your company was a scam or not and maybe you are not, but you are truly distasteful if that is the case. First of all those posts do not help they hurt you. It makes you look even more bad that you would tell this mans personall business in a public forum. you were quick to get on here and defend yourself so im guessing someone is nearby, or call you telling you what is being said. A good company handles themselves with dignaty and my have posted that the allegations were untrue because of conflict in interest, or a personal issue has occured that steve-o is slamming your company. You dont just go out and post on a public forum about his wife leaving him, and cheating on him and BOO HOO him. How UNPROFESSIONAL a professional would never allow his comments to make them stoop to a level that is unbecomming of them and you truly showed your colors here and you have made yourself look bad. very very bad. you did all on your own with this last post

Whitelight Financial is a completely unprofessional company that does not deserve your business. They took my debt on in April of 2009. I spoke on the phone with one of the customer service representatives (after two phone appointments that they missed) and detailed my accounts. A few days later I got my informational packet in the mail with my account information incorrect. I wrote a letter detailing, again, my accounts. They emailed new contracts and sent them off.

Over the next two months, they mistakenly withdrew too much from my savings account causing me to be billed overdraft fees. After more phone calls on my end, they finally credited my account the amount of the fees.

Then, a week ago, I get a phone call from them saying that they cannot deal with one of my creditors, that they never deal with this company. I asked why they did not tell me this in April. They claimed not to know, then claimed that they informed me that this company was notorious for not dealing with consolidation companies, then said that they NEVER deal with this company and told me this in April. So why did they approve my contract with the name of this company in big letters? And the letter I sent clarifying my account information had this company's name in it, too. Why only now is this an issue?

When I demanded my money back for that account so that I could pay the creditor that I was now 4 months behind in paying, the offered to refund some of my money in 30 days. They made no attempt to suggest restructuring my payment plan, I had to bring that up. They told me to talk to the creditor and work something out with them to get loan forbearance and find a deal. Isn't that what I was paying them for? When I told them this, they told me that it was not their fault. How is it not their fault? I stopped paying this company in good faith that Whitelight was going to handle this account.

The arrogant boss of Whitelight told me (after two more missed phone appointments) that it would do no good to assign blame. Of course not, it was her fault! They accepted this debt, then they tried to back out of negotiations a settlement with me. They refused to take responsibility and refused to apologize for their mistake. She just kept saying that I needed to decide if I was going to renegotiate with them or cancel. I canceled. The arrogant boss then said that their company was better off without my business and hung up on me. Is this the type of company you want working for you? Do you want to give them your hard earned money?

When I called and emailed the next morning to ask for a copy of my contract, they gave me the runaround. Finally, they told me that all of my information had been sent to a 3rd party negotiator who would process my refund request. It has been a week and no word from the 3rd party negotiator. When I emailed asking for the contact information for this 3rd party negotiator, the said that they did not have the information. How can they not have the contact information for a company that they just sent my file to? The refuse to give me any information about this 3rd party negotiator, including the name of the company itself.

So guess what Whitelight Financial, since you have decided to treat me this way, it is my new mission in life to educate others to your deplorable business practices. I hope that your company is better off with my business and the business of every person who reads articles about you on the internet. I will be posting my story on every thread I can find.

I totally agree with Chris from CA. I am in a similar situation with Whitelight. I cancelled my contract with them over two months ago, and I'm still waiting for my refund! 30 days? Yeah right. They do not respond to my request for updates, and lie to me when I call. This is unacceptable. Do not waste your time or your money.

To Chris from CA
the law in Fl is as follows "Florida law limits debt negotiators' initial fee to $50 and their fees thereafter to $120 annually or the greater of 7.5 percent of the monthly amount allocated by the debtor for debt reduction or $35 a month."
so if you paid more then that then i would advise this, go to the Florida Attorney General. He is aggressively going after companies like this that do debt negotiations right now...he will get your money back for you and shut down these people. but without people like you to stand up he will never know about this company..you need to stand yup and say something or they will just continue to do this to other people

I too was taken by Whitelight Financial. $2100.00 later (there fee's), I have a judgement against me, and working with a collection agency to keep them from garnishing my wages, and have several thousand additional dollars in fee's and penalities I have to pay. Paul Edwards, Chatham Il

I do intend to take them to small claims court, I have had their contract reviewed and have been told its very weak.

Venting on this website does nothing, if we can not get refunds, there are two choices, attorneys, or States Attorney's. Its my opinion that the Duvall State's Attorney's office is quite aware of this company, but allow them to operate.

Its beyond time to take Mr. and Mrs. Smith to court, maybe a Federal Venue, County States' Attorneys can be bought, happens all the time. Paul Edwards, Chatham Il

:cry:i dont know it whitelight financial is a scam or not but its not looking good right now. i just finished my final payment and i have been leaving a message every day for 2 weeks and nobody will return my call. it seems like whitelight financial is starting up another company empowerservice.org and etpsfreedebthelp.org if nobody returns my call by the end of this week i will have to take my contract to a lawyer. whitelight kept telling me they have a good relationship with my creditors so they would be able to negotiate with them. my original creditors no longer hold my accounts and i dont even know who has them now because nobody will return a call

Whitelight took my money and did nothing. I have cancelled and have not received a refund, they still take a draft out of my account and have not called or emailed me back in a month. I guess the next time I talk with anyone will be in court. I have also filed a complaint with BBB. Not that they are accredited anyway......

I too have been taken for a ride by Whitelight Financial Service, I am on my final payment and isn't it funny that like others I cannot get the company to respond to me? They now have close to 4,000 of my money in fees and have mysteriously disappeared. I call every number and leave messages, I email every contact I've used in the past and nothing. No one responds.

I don't know that I have any recourse but I hope others out there looking for a way out of debt will take heed before using this company. I thought I did my homework and picked a reputable company but apparently Whitelight Financial is nothing more than a bunch of crooks praying on the weakness of others. I have filed complaints with the BBB, the FTC and the State's Attorney for what it's worth. I doubt I will see my money ever again but I encourage all of you who have been shafted to complain. Perhaps with enough complaints they will at least find the people responsible and put them in jail where they belong.

Whitelight did nothing for me either. They tell me that they wanted to get a much lower pay off with a creditor and didn't work with them. Now my wages are being garnished. I was really pissed that they let it go that far and didn't even inform me until I was served court papers. So I ended my contract with them after payin them thousands of dollars.
NOW, after ending the contract over 6 months ago they have taken money out of my savings account...I don't have a contract with them and they still can take money out because they have my account information. The recording I got when I called was that they were experiencing a large number of calls due to an oversight from the third party that does the debits. The other recording I got was that they were having problems with their phone provider and changed the number...sounds really fishy, of course the number works but who knows. The first recording also said that the draft with be back in your account in 7 business days plus $30 for any inconvience, well it is over 10 days now and nothing. I have left message after message and no return call.
I had to pay overdraft and curteous pays, and the money that was in the account was for other bills and now I can't pay them. So if you have ended your contract make sure you go to your financial institution and have them blocked.
I will be calling the BBB and State's Attorney today...no more Mr. nice guy.

I dont want to bash anyone but Chris is from CA so what your are saying is irrelevant, it only applies to clients that live in the state of Florida...different states have different laws on how much a settlement company can charge or even if they can work in that clients state

STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have emailed over and over and over requesting a refund for 3 transactions where they withdrew money from my acct. WITHOUT PERMISSION. I was never recorded giving them permission or 72 hours to back out. We agreed on an amt. yes but was not to be withdrawn until I received the papers to read and sign.

I would NEVER agree to go with someone who only gives 72 hours to cancel BEFORE you are able to READ what you are agreeing to. It has taken me over a year and 1/2 and they will not reply to me. I am totally disabled and IF they would refund my money I could keep my electricity from being cut off and possibly not loose my and my son's home I am waiting for disability to start IF I am able to receive it and have medical proof from a doctor I am disabled.

I got in credit card debt because of my illness and a divorce both of which I could not control NOT because I was out spending money on clothes, vacations or any of the non essential things, and was trying to prevent having to spend all my retirement money, which I ended up having to do anyway.

I hope these people sleep well in their a/c home, watching cable, sleeping in a comfy bed, with their stomachs full tonite. My son and I won't be probably in a few days. So I hope they keep this in mind. Just remember Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, What goes around comes around. And my favorite is you may not receive your rewards or punishments for wrong doing to others on this earth, but you WILL receive whichever you are to receive after you take that last breath on earth and no matter what you cannot avoid facing that.

Believe eveything you read negative about these people, don't be STUPID like I was they talk a good talk and act like they give a damn. And they do, about filling up their pockets with money that does not belong to them to begin with. Hope to see this posted on their reviews but I don't count on it, they don't have the guts to show the truth.
