American Express Sueing me

I just got a summon from the court saying that american express is suing me for the my balance of 12,000. I don't know what I should or can do about the situation and I have already lost just about everything I own and am on the verge of losing my house. Is there a way to settle with them or should I just follow through with the court process? What can I expect in a situation like this?

Just call the number listed on the summons - will either be theirs, or their law firm's, and ask if a settlement is a possibility. They can always say no. But they may surprise you, and offer you some kind of lower amount, or a payment plan you can live with - before it gets to court. It doesn't hurt to try.
