lowering interest rates

I had a phone yesterday from a company that wanted to sign me up with their program to lower my credit card rates? Is this a good idea or should I try to this myself?

how did they say they would accomplish this?i hear stories of people who have great credit getting there rates raised or limits slashed.i would be leery of this.in this economy if paying on time isn't enough.then some company won't be able to either.i would steer clear.
