I am overwhelmed with all my debts around and don't know what to do. Please suggest me how to begin with?

Hi Jackie

Take control of this situation otherwise things will get even tougher. You should talk to your lenders without hesitation and insist for a payment plan.

Tell them that you have been going through hard times and now you will stick to the payment plan once it is set. Since the creditors are also interested in getting their money back, they will be willing to work with you.

Or, you can take some professional help and let them handle your debt accounts. The consultant will negotiate with your creditors and get better negotiation deals.

In the consolidation program, you will be offered the following benefits:

I receive SSDI because I have mental illness. I have 3 major debts.
Two of them are sending me to court. What should I do at this point.
One is 401K tax debt that has skyrocketed because I couldn't afford the debt, and the interest is so high. And because of my mental illness I am not able to manage well the debts.
Please advice.
Thank you.

If you owe a debt to the IRS, I'm almost certain they can garnish your SSDI benefits to pay it off. I recommend contacting them and attempting to work it out with them. The IRS is much easier to work with than it used to be.

Perhaps your local legal aid foundation can be of help you. You'll want to try to fight this...have you attempted payment arrangements with them? If so, do you have anything in writing? Just because you may be "judgement proof" does not mean that your creditors cannot obtain one. Judgements are expensive and they linger on and on...you'll want to avoid this if at all possible.

Lastly, if you can't manage your own finances, maybe you need to seek a conservator.
