They are legal. They are also members of CFSA. So far, they
have been good to work with.

If they are CFSA members, you may be able to set up payment arrangments through an Extended Payment Plan (EPP). You will need to call and ask what their options are for this. It may vary depending on your state.

According to a Cease & Desist Order filed by the State of California, their legal status could not be determined (see point 3). Since this was just filed in Jan 09, some interesting times are in store for them. We shall see.

And, this brings up another strong point of mine: if a creditor violates the FDCPA or business practices, you should file with the FTC (for FDCPA violations) and/or your State's Attorney General's Office. When many complaints catch the eye of the government, actions are taken. Or to put it another way, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. We are in this together as Americans, and these rip-off artists can only succeed if we as a people allow them to. That is the great thing about this community: informing those who are not knowledgeable on these matters and giving them the power that knowledge brings with it. I love it here!!

I was recently subpoened by the State of California Dept. of Corporations to testify in their case against GECC. I had filed complaints against GECC with the BBB, FTC and California Dept. of Corporations. The attorney for the California Dept. of Corporations subpoened me to testify against GECC after I had provided them with my bank account records and correspondence with GECC. The end result is that GECC has agreed to not sell payday loans in California, and I got my money back!!!

I would file a complaint right away with the California Dept. of Corporations if you have an outstanding loan with GECC. It pays to complain to the right people!
