My advise to you would be to try and negotiate with a debt consolidation company who will do some work for you and then after they do some good debt negotiation, you pay them a fee based on a percentage of the debt that they help reduce for you which you could not have done on your own.

its a shame that such a great forum here to help others, and so many "guests" come in and make it all confusing. Sorry for that. Now the route you take is one you will have to find for yourself because we are not allowed to advertise any company here and for good reason.

If you can swing debt consolidation, go for it it is your best choice, but if you feel you cannot commit to a large payment for a long period of time(ie, job loss, income lost, illness, whatever) you may need to consider settlement.

You can do this yourself or through a company. but if choosing a company know the facts and do your research. be sure that you know what your getting into. There are alot of people out there right now taking advantage of people in thier time of need its such a shame. Im not sure how people sleep at night. Good luck

I think no upfront fees is a very important part to consider when choosing a company of anytype of debt help. In my particular situation i couldnt have afforded upfront fees even if i wanted to. It also gives you the opportunity to see how they are going to work for you before you invest a pile of money. Be cautious about fees because alot of companies once you sign on and cancel you cant get your money back and alot of these places are charging thousands and you cant afford that at this point and time.

Yes a lot of fees even I have seen are non refundable, so be careful of that.
