I paid a debt off about 6 times over with Asset Acceptance, and on the phone last April 2008, I expressed how much I had paid in over a 5 year period, and they kept telling me the debt was still over $1600, which is what the debt began at. I set up automatic payments at $150 per month. I argued that they had made their money probably 10 times over, so lets get this paid off. I negotiated a deal that they would stop the monthly interest charges, and they said it would be paid off , with a last payment in December 2008. I asked at that time for a letter stating our agreement, and was told they would draft a letter and send it to me. Then in January my bank account was deducted again.
I want to know if there are any attorneys that will help me get some of my money back from this rip-off company, and help protect others from the same scam. I would split the recovery 50/50 with whomever will help. The statements I get monthly have never given me a payment amount or balance of the account, which I requested like 100 times, but they just ignore my requests. Should I tell my bank to stop payments to this company? Can I legally go after the agent personally also for deceiving me and not complying with my requests? I know there have to be some kind of rights violations they are guilty of in this case.

TB, you should never have given them your bank information. Close that account and open a new one ASAP. Were you sued and a court ordered the payments? You should send them a DV letter CMRRR making them prove that they have the right to collect this debt. If they contact you again, tell them until they provide the information that you are asking for that you'll not send them another dime.
