Two days ago some man arrived at my home with an OPEN envelop, did I mention it was after 9pm, I also did not have to sign for it!! Anyway I looked inside the envelop to find it stated a SUMMONS. When I read through the whole thing, I started pulling up documents to give them an answer, when I got to the portion that required the Case number, I looked at the Summons to find there was not case number. I contacted our county court house and they told me there is nothing in the system for me, they have no idea what that summons is or why I received it.
Can someone tell me what this could be? I am thinking it is a scare tactic from the credit card company. Also if this is a fake, how can they do things like this, isn't this illegal?

Sounds illegal to me. Does it have your county court on it? Does it list who the plaintiff is and who the attorney for the plaintiff is?

From what you say, it is probably a fake summons.

Does it say what the debt is for? If so and if it is yours, do you remember when the last time was that you made a payment?

Also what state do you live in? If the debt is passed the statute of limitations for your state, they could be trying to scare you into paying and get you to restart the SOL and then they can sue you.
