My Sincere Apology
Date: Fri, 02/13/2009 - 16:40
A couple of my fellow posters informed me that I used a term I should have not used...complaining! This was the wrong terminology and I know the people that log on to this site are not complainers. I came here for guidance and I support you 100% for trying to get out of debt. So I am sorry if I offended anyone. The message I was trying to get across was that I, with your help, want to put a stop to these illegal lenders because I don't want no one else to become a victim. There was a guest recently on this site that read our experiences and changed his/her mind on taking out a internet PDL. I applaud everyone for helping him/her to reach that decision. This inspired me to go to 20/20 website and deliver my story. So please I encourage you all, my fellow Posters, to do the same. This is the message I recently posted........
I am asking the community to tell their story to 20/20 investigation. Go the the following site abcnews.go.com/blotter and at your right you will see a blog that says Send Tip to Brian. Only thing you will have to give is your email address. Tell your story. Tell how these illegal companies are harrassing you and your family, tell how Bank of America is not closing your accounts and charging NSF fees. As long as you are handling this is the dark, we can not bring these illegal PDL sites to the light. Take out time and tell your story. Can you imagine someone committing suicide because they are trapped in these debts. Let's do something. Thanks.

Misty, there is no need to apologize, I just wanted to make it clear to guests who lurk here we do not consider them complainers. I want anyone who happens on this site to feel perfectly comfortable venting their problems and seeking advice. :)

I think maybe you used the wrong word but I think we all knew what you meant and what you are trying to do :)
We do encourage people to complain to the BBB, their state AG and the FTC if it applies but I think some are just so glad to get out from under the illegal lenders they don't take the time to fill out the complaints.
I believe the complaints that are filed are only done so when the illegal PDL won't give them the PIF. Once the BBB and the AG gets involved the companies sometimes back off and give the customer, and I use that term loosly as they are really victims, the PIF they want.
Also, some illegal PDLs that do give a PIF threaten that they will reverse the PIF if they get complaints against them. So people don't file out of fear.
They just want the whole mess behind them and to be honest I can't really blame them.
The most we can do it give them the information they need to get out, advice and support them during the process and congratulate them when they get those PIFs. We also encourge them to stay around and help others.
The biggest wish of course is that they never take a PDL again.
I did some searching and 20/20 did a piece on PDLs in 2007 but it was more geared toward credit debt and legal payday loans.
I do agree with you though that the word about illegal loan practices needs to get out there.
