This company calls me 1-2 times per year asking for money (which I owe), but everytime I ask them for the balance and interest rate they're charging me, they refuse to tell me. I've been paying them $100 per month because my job demands its employees to be financially responsible. At the time $100 was all I could afford, but now I can pay more and I want this to be over. How can I get them to provide the info I need because I think it would be foolish to blindly send them more money?

Yes, send them a DV letter ASAP. Your work may require you to be financially responsible, but they would not insist you pay on a questionable debt. If this company can't or won't provide you with the requested information, then something is not right and you should be very suspicious.

If they ignore your DV, then it is time to play a little hardball. Send another letter informing them if they fail to send you the documentation they are required to by law, then you will not be making any further payments. Give them 15-30 days to comply, and then if they do not, stop paying them because something is not right. If they are legally collecting upon a legal debt, they should have no problem providing the information to you.

You can also explain the situation to your boss, that you have been making payments, but when you inquired about he total owed and interest rate, they refused to divulge that information, immediately making you suspicious of this account.
