I live in New York. I currently have a PDL from United Cash Loans and EZ PayDay Cash, both in the amount of $300 and both started in October, 2008. I closed my account last week and am wondering if they could still try to debit the account and what I need to tell the bank as far as the situation. They are due to debit on Wednesday the 18th.

Thank you.

Pam

pdl's are prohibited in NY.you are only obligated to pay the principle borrowed.it sounds like you have on both.i would ask the bank about that.some do re-open accounts because of attempted debits up to a month after closing.best to make sure it won't be forced open again.

Here's the problem with United. An appeals court in California just bought their "We're an Indian Tribe" nonsense - hook, line and sinker. The judge didn't say they were legal - quite the opposite. But he did tell the Department of Corporations that unless they can prove the tribe isn't the "real" lender the state has no power to enforce its laws against the tribe.
