I have been receiving phone calls from a PDL company trying to locate my sister. they are saying that legal action is imminent if i do not tell them how to contact her. My sister was recently diagnosed with Breast cancer and is having to live with my parents so she has effectively gone into hiding:) LOL. My questions are:

1. what, if anything, can these pdl companies actually do?

2. how do I help her without throwing her under the bus? I want to be able to do the right thing, but I don't want to be an enabler in her financial woes. Her personal health issues are overwhelming enough right now.

Legal payday loan companies are guided by the pdl laws of the state they are lending. First of all check whether the pdl companies are licensed in your state. If they are then they have to abide by the state payday loan laws.

Where does your sister live? Pdl laws of that state will be applicable for her. Can you please mention the names of the pdl companies from which your sister had borrowed?

Simply tell them, next time they call you that you do not have any info and they have the wrong number and hang up but not before letting them know you have recorded the call as proof that you asked them to not contact you.

If they had legitimate info on your sister, they would contact her.

I had CMG Recovery contact my parents right before Christmas and discuss an illegal debt, in depth with them over the phone (which is highly illegal). This made it very scary for my parents because they told them I was "about to be sued for fraud".

My parents aren't as wise about legalities with these issues and this debt is my daughters, not mine, thus their distress.
Once I sent CMG a "proof of debt" letter, I have not heard one word from them since then.

Best of luck and prayers for your sister.

Always record the call and just let them know you have nothing to do with your sister's personal or financial life. Im not responsible if my brother doesn't know how to manage his finances so i wouldn't expect someone to call me for information. Simply let them know you wont give them anything and ask for them to stop calling.
