New car title

I purchased a 1978 Impala about 3-4 years ago and before i could get it registered i destoyed the title (washing machine) the car was purchased in tennessee but i dont know if the people i bought it from were from tennessee it had alabama tags on the car but i dont know if those were the right tags to the vehicle. I m trying to get in contact with my ex because i think she has the bill of sale and there names should be on there if they are not i dont know what else to do to get this title in my name. if any body has any answers or suggestions let me know!!!!!


You want to get back your lost car title, right? You can get a duplicate certificate of the car title. For this you???ve to fill up an application through Taxpayer and Vehicle Services Division. While filing, you???ve to show identity proof like driver???s license. You can send application either through mail or submit it in person. You can get the application format in the following page: -

First fill up the form and send it through mail along with a $5.50 fee. Send it to Tennessee Department of Revenue, Taxpayer and Vehicle Services Division, 44 Vantage Way, Suite 160, Nashville, TN 37243-8050.

Yes, but the title was never registered in the OP's name -- it is still in the original owners name. For that reason, the DMV will not give the OP a duplicate title, because it has no knowledge of the transfer of title. (It would be like you trying to apply for a title to your neighbor's car ... they will only do it for your neighbor).

Somehow the OP has to get ahold of the original owners, get them to request a duplicate title, and then they can transfer it to the OP.

It is going to be hard to find them. The DMV won't even tell you who they are (release of information is forbidden by the DPPA).

I have a truck that belong to my brother who died in October. I am unable to find title. I have searched and cleaned the house out. He did not have a wife. I called and this question was asked.
