I just can't afford a settlement company and am willing to do this myself I could really use someone who would be willing to guide me along the way to PM me so I have someone to help guide me.

My income is starting to come up a little, I really don't want to go BK and I am sure it would be 13 and so what would I gain over settlement or consolidation and then have it on my credit report longer than if I just deal with it these other ways.

Would someone be willing to help me. Thanks

You can absolutely settle your debt yourself. Google the company name "zip debt". I have not used them myself but wish I did; it would have saved me a ton of money and headache. I have read a lot of good things about them and their program I think is around $300 (don't quote me on that one).

There are so many posts on this site about settlement companies either being a scam or doing a really crappy job. In my opinion the only person you can truly trust is yourself. Who is going to work harder at settling your debt than you? Learn as much as you can and read up on your creditors by searching for their names on this site. There is a ton of really good info here. Learn what they typically will settle for (they all vary) and what the time frame is for you to have to come up with the money. A good general rule of thumb, again just in my opinion, is to be able to come up with 50% of your total debt within 12-18 months and no longer. Even using that as a guideline you are definitely at risk of being sued, (although even that is not the end of the world) and things can get ugly. Arm yourself with knowledge and you will get out of this!

Good luck to you!
