What are the best steps in getting myself outta debt? I have only about 2400 in debt but i dont want it to get outta control and next thing you know im 10k 20k in debt. Should i just pay this off rite now? Cause in the long run i do want to buy a house and stuff. So what are the best steps into avoiding this? Should i just keep paying monthly? Any advice would be awesome Thanks!!!

absolutely pay it off now. I have learned from experience 1,000 turns into 2 and the next thing you know you have 20,000 or more. its a trap. that unfortuantely many people repeat.

Its hard to stay away from cc these days. I myself went through a debt settlement program because me debt got out of control an swore i would never use them again. I was out of the program for over 2 years and my furnace broke and needed them to finish installing it.

It stinks that sometimes we are dependent on them, but if you have the means to pay them off do it now before something comes up that you need it again and then you have double of what you owe now.

good luck!

If you truly want to get out of debt, you have to take drastic steps now. Stop spending money, only use cash/checks to pay for your necessities, and concentrate on putting every PENNY you have left over after bills to paying off your cards. Get a second job. Stop smoking/drinking/eating junk food. If you have a gym membership and only go once a week or month or year, cancel it and go for a walk or buy a cheap set of weights from a thrift store or WalMart. Stop texting and lower your cell phone plan. Cancel or drastically reduce your internet/TV packages. Borrow books, CD's, DVD's, videos and tapes from the public library. Access the internet for free from the library rather than having home internet. Cancel your home phone if you have a cell phone. Look at each and every bill you pay, and think long and hard about every purchase, even if it's just a soda. I wish I had done all that before, because if you are in debt, you'll have to be drastic sooner or later, so might as well do it NOW!

Good Luck!

excellent advice. The only thing i can add is get rid of the plan phone and buy a trac phone if you need it for emergencies. Initial investment for me 40.00 20 for phone 20 for minutes and in 3 months you will need to spend 20 again for minutes unless you upfront spend the 100 for a year plan.

my cell is not for chatting but for emergencies or can you pick up some milk? my cell costs me around 80.00 a year.

but you must make your debt the priority. My advice, make your life suck until its over so you will never do it again. No luxuries what so ever. no take out, no treating yourself, no nothing. If you make your life stink, you will think before buying again.

Also to add to the post above if you start paying for everything with cash, you get change. dont spend the change put it in a jar everyday. Its a great way to save.

LOL I scrounge for coins, pick up pennies, and deposit change into the bank, and use that to pay down my cards as fast as possibles. As said above, if you suffer now, and I mean REALLY suffer by scrimping and doing without, you will be much less likely to be stupid and get yourself back into debt in the future.
