Yes, there are some good companies out there you just have to weed them out amungst the scams! sad but true. I have a list of ten questions you should ask a settlement company before going with them on my blog you may want to check them out.
second thing is are they a member of bbb? check out that site and make sure that complaints are resolved. It is normal to have complaints but make sure they are resolved. check there rating
3rd are they a member of tasc? This site requires them to follow certain guidelines. you can check out the tasc and what they do for you as a customer of settlement at thier website. just google tasc and i believe its the first selection. Not all good companies are members but they should be. If you find a company thats a member of both the bbb and tasc, its a good start but dont stop there.
google is your friend. research the company over and over with different questions like "should i use x company?" or stay away from x company or x company is a scam.
and last of all you came to the right place. Search around see what others are saying about x companies. you will get the feel of some of them and know if they are right for you or not. No one is going to flat out tell you who they are using becuase they are not allowed to promote and if they do, then they most likely work for that company.
take postings by guests with a grain of salt. Sadly this is a great forum but many companies use it for advertising.
good luck in your searches and if you have any more questions feel free to post again!

That is great advice and thank you. I did check the bbb and was looking into consumer debt solutions they are part of bbb has b rating, but reading some replys about this company gives me second thoughts, but they all seem to be that way. They all have good and bad things being said about them.I think I can only use debt settlement because my debt is too high,i've contacted 3 debt consolidation companies and 2 wanted me to pay more than what I am spending now on minimum pymts alone, one could only save me $500/month,which isn't enough.I'm wondering if I could negotiate myself..but when and how..will it work..has anyone ever done credit card negotiating themselves? have you ever used a debt setttlement company first before you tried it on your own negotiation process?

Google the company "zip debt" for info on doing it yourself. You will get better settlement deals if you do it yourself. They have a lot of great info on their site. I wish I knew about it before I spent over $3000 with a debt settlement company....I could have used that to put toward the settlements. Oh well I learned the hard way I guess.
I am using solicitation not allowed as per TOS for my debt sett
I am using solicitation not allowed as per TOS for my debt settlement. so far, so good...no complaints

there are many people here on this forum that have done debt set
there are many people here on this forum that have done debt settlement on thier own and have had great sucess. but no one can gaurantee you how long or what they will settle for. each company is different and will all needed to be treated differently.
some will be willing to settle and settle fast while others will drag thier feet and be not so nice. and you may even get a thorn in your side that doesnt want to settle at all and will possibly take you straight to court. No one really knows its unlikely but it has happend.
If you are interested in doing this yourself make sure you are well informed and prepared. you can do it yourself alot of people do.
But knowlege is power make sure you know what you are talking about, and confindent about what you are saying and be able to smell through the bs.
good luck in what ever you decide to do!!

thanks to all that have replied...I am looking into everything and will share my results so hopefully I can help someone else some day because this is a nightmare especially when you don't know who you can trust. Now...has anyone heard of attorney John Farrell in Massachusetts...he works for a debt consolidation/settlement company.

why is the name of the co i used for settlement deleted??? i am not soliciting just trying to pass the word of a good, reliable debt settlement co.
when i first joined this forum sort of the same thing happend.
when i first joined this forum sort of the same thing happend. But listen, if you stick around awhile you will relize that alot of advertising goes on here saying that they were clients when in fact they work for the company. just trying to get a client. you dont realize it when your new, but when you have been around for awhile you will notice it.
I myself know how hard it was to find a good settlement company and wanted to pass the word on to help others but you will realize that later that it really is a good rule this way people cant be misguided. If you are positive about how they worked for you, and really want to make a difference the only way you can do this is by placing it in your signature link at the bottom of your posts and you may never reference to it. It must be peoples own choice to check it out not you refering them. I hope this helps.
say for instance you work for company X so you go to all the postings stating you are or was a client of x company and you should join them go here, if you were allowed to do this every company would be spamming this site with thier fake testimonials. It takes awhile but you can eventually see through these people, but guests just passing by for info dont know this so it is a very good rule.
