Depends what type of pdl's. If they're from the internet, most will just pound you with collection calls and eventuall sell the debt to someone who will pound you some more. Eventually, it stops though, and the worst that happens is a collection agency puts a bad mark on your credit report.
If they're from stores though, you could have a problem. That's a real, live check you gave them. Depending on your state laws and the lender's collection policies, you could end up with a real problem.

Debt is a civil matter not criminal but you could end up in a civil court of law and a judgement placed against you. If these are store front loans and you have defaulted call the corporate office of each and make payment arrangements. If your loans are still current, ask for an extended payment plan. If your lenders are CFSA this plan is definitely available.
You need to be proactive and communicate with these lenders.
