On the website I went to look up the number, it says they are some sort of non-profit organization. Not sure what for though

Try a BBB search, or yet, try the online yellow pages for that city. See if they have an actual physical address. If they are legit?? they would leave a message. the FED. Trade Comm. website and see if there are any complaints against them.
As a last resort, call Legal Aid in DC or the Chamber of commerce for info. Good Luck

I "googled" the number and on several "who called me?" websites there's a lot of complaints about them. Apparently it is a non-profit but don't know how legitimate it is. Don't know if it's connected with any PDL's, though.
