they called me today saying i owed a debt from 2001. Dont remember that far back but have payed everything i have owed on. The amount was over 4000.00. Something that bad i believe i would remember. I haven't been mailed anything but they would fax it to me. What should i do? Seems that they couldnt collect on this anyway with the time frame, but if i owed it i would have payed. Oh they did say that it was on a credit card. I have only had one card and i still have it. Please someone tell me what to do.

Splitting this onto its own thread

What state do you live in? 2001? Is it being reported on your credit reports? Have they sent you anything in writing? If not, next time they call, answer the phone, verify you are the consumer they are seeking, verify your mailing address and inform them they now have 5 days to send you details of the account in writing. End the call. When you receive their dunning letter, respond with a request for debt validation (DV) w/in 30 days of receiving their letter. Send it CMRRR.
