Ranking charts are meaningless since you dont know who is doing the ranking and if they are legit. Check possible co's on the BBB website. The company is chose has a A rating and gave A service.

check the bbb, and tasc, and forums. read up everything you can on settlement first so you know before you get involved what is at stake. and if your ok with that then search a company.
There are many things that you can do to be sure you are not being scammed by a company. I have a list of 10 questions you should ask when STARTING to find a company. But you shouldnt stop there. Besure you are comfortable with who you are dealing with and that you are committed to the program.

2.Years of experience in the business
3.Ratio of cases received / cases resolved.
4. whether they have any alternate solution if you are not getting debt settled?
5.If you get the claim where they are asking money to keep (in which account)

I would also check to see if they are members of TASC or at lea
I would also check to see if they are members of TASC or at least USOBA. If they are not members that doesn't necessarily discredit them ,but them being a member of these debt negotiation associations are a pretty good indicator if a reputable company. I also highly suggest that you do check them out with the BBB as well. Although I think the BBB is a scam ,I still think its useful to look the company up with the BBB site to at least see if the company and has an unusual pattern of complaints or has unresolved complaints. If the settlement company didn't pay the Better Business Bureau membership dues " aka extortion fees " don't surprised to see a bad letter rating.

If you disregard the rating, and look at just the complaints and see if they are resolved, it could still be a useful tool. I myself are re-evaluating how i feel about the bbb, I am hearing alot lately about thier shady practices bulling companies.
but if you can still use it to get a idea about the complaints so i would not completely disregard them. Even though i dont feel they are as trustworthy as they used to be
