You will not be arrested and nothing will affect your wife unles
You will not be arrested and nothing will affect your wife unless she is a user on the cc. Relax, the debt is unsecured. You can try and settle the debt for a lesser amount.

If you receive one, don't just not show up or they will get a default judgement. You can answer the summons, and if there is a hardship with you, you can claim that. Just be prepared to show a financial hardship when you go. A judge will usually set payments for you to pay.

My first question would be how do you get 50K into unpayable CC debt? My second is...is the one CC or multiple? A creditor is going to aggressively pursue for 50K as opposed to multiple creditors looking for...say...2K each

No one can take you to jail this is a civil matter. the worst thing they can do is sue you in court. and that may be to your advantage too if you cant seem to reach a settlement agreement.
follow bossys post. its sound advice. try to settle first, if you cant appear in court with your proof of hardship.
