Rarely. Too many people file, and most papers don't want to print out the whole list. I've googled this and I found very few references to its current use.

As far as credit counseling - that depends on the particular company you choose. It's a good thing to ask them that when you are looking through the government-approved list.

they do in my town, but i live in a very small community. I would guess if you lived else were the list would just be way to long.

I live in Florida and they print your name in the newspaper here! :? I asked the day we signed our final paperwork and filed our petition. I am waiting for ours to go in there. At first I was freaked out but hey, what can ya do?

As far as the required Bankruptcy course, you need to take one to file BK and post filing before you can receive your discharge. I know once we filed and our info become public info (yuck), we started getting all kinds of solicitations for the course. Most of these companies said their course can be done by phone and online. We did ours online and it was basic. I know with ours, my husband and I could take it together online and then call the 1800 # I guess to confirm it was us that actually took it. They ask very basic questions-no biggie and took about 5 minutes. You then print out a certificate of completion.
